C is for Cats by Greg Paprocki is an adorable way to teach Baby their ABCs and introduce them to all the wonderful things cats can be. I’m not a child development expert, so I don’t know if babies can really learn about cats from books... I don’t even know if they can learn the alphabet from books! But C is for Cats is honestly worth it for the delight of turning each page to discover which word has been paired with each letter, and for the absolutely charming illustrations on each page.
Paprocki showcases all kinds of cats (and people)! We see pampered cats, bold kittens, grumpy fat cats, wild strays, and cat colonies. I enjoyed the variety and various situations the cats got into, and all the ways the cats and their people interacted.
Greg Paprocki is a brilliant illustrator with more than a few alphabet books and a real knack for attention to detail. Each illustration has movement and personality that comes together to tell a mini story... Paprocki’s style is like a polished version of The Jetsons. This retrofuturism creates some rather endearing cats and cat-loving families in C is for Cats!
Even if it can’t teach your baby their ABCs, I have to recommend C is for Cats based on the gorgeous illustrations and charming vocabulary. A perfect gift for a cat lover with a new baby!
