With hand-painted illustrations and a snarky narrator, Poopsie Gets Lost is a gorgeous tale of one fancy little kitten learning her own capability,

The best thing about this picture book, besides the illustrations, has to be the narrator. This unnamed, unseen figure goads Poopsie into leaving her home and entering the dangerous jungle. The narrator is never revealed to us, even at the end, when Poopsie breaks the fourth wall and pulls the curtain on our narrator (and the book as a whole). As you watch the narrator tease this poor little kitten, you can't help but cheer her on!

At its core, Poopsie Gets Lost is a hero's journey. Our hero leaves home, faces obstacles like alligators and snakes, and then at her lowest moment, discovers her inner power, rises to the challenge, and heads back home. At one point, she unties her pink satin bow and wears it like a bandana. She returns triumphant and forever changed by her journey (much to the narrator's dismay).

The combination of absolutely gorgeous illustrations, mischievous narrator, and hero's journey make for an endearing, giggle-inducing tale. The narrator uses words like "fuddie-duddies," for goodness sake! It's a no-brainer for a read-aloud. Poopsie Gets Lost has a lot of kid-appeal, due in no small part to the name "Poopsie." (Admit it, you laughed, too).
